Synopsis

“The innuendo is one of the basic building blocks of British humour, stretching from humble seaside postcards via the vulgar genius of Benny Hill and the Carry On films to Finbarr Saunders in Viz comic.”

So sayeth TV pundit Garry Bushell – a man who knows a thing or two about vulgarity. In his career as tabloid critic, he has amassed a record of thousands of unintentional innuendos emanating from the lips of our best-known TV personalities and celebrities. The classic which subtitles this book – “I had a good eight inches last night!” – was an innocent remark about snowfall by Ulrika Jonsson, back in her days as a weathergirl.

In this good-natured/dirty-minded compendium, we chortle along at the unconscious double entendres uttered by such national treasures as Ulrika, Chris Tarrant, Nigella
Lawson, John McCririck, Noel Edmonds, Tim Rice, Judy Finnigan, Lennox Lewis, Michael Parkinson, David Coleman, Harry Carpenter and Mariella Frostrup. Rib-ticklingly ribald sections include: ‘Classic Clangers’, ‘Pure Filth’, ‘Sport’s Greatest Goofs’, ‘Foot-in-Mouth Disease’ and, of course, ‘Did They Really Say That?’

His ITV series of the same name received the highest viewing figures on the Night Network for two series. He has also been resident critic on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast and Nuts TV.
